The Obama Administration called most civilian workers back to Fort Leonard Wood, saying it had the authority to do so amid  the congressional budget standoff.

Most of the civilian employees of the Army are being called back to work at Missouri’s Fort Leonard Wood, the post announced Monday.

Over the weekend, Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel said bringing the employees back is allowed under the Pay Our Military Act.  Hagel says the act allows him to cancel the mandatory furloughs for employees who “contribute to the morale, well-being, capabilities and readiness of service members.”

More than 3,600 employees — including Texas County residents — were impacted in Fort Leonard Wood when the partial government shutdown went into effect Oct. 1.
