Officials with the Salvation Army of Texas County Service Unit report that donations are down this year due to the weather and are calling for additional help in meeting this year’s goal of raising $18,000.
“We are still in need of bell ringers at Wal-Mart, Town & Country and Forbes in Houston,” said Salvation Army representative Bennie Cook. “We have available times at each location. Times are still available in Licking at Town & Country, Cabool, and Summersville at Kollers. And 85 percent of all money raised stays here in Texas County.”
Cook said funds raised will be used to provide emergency assistance to needy people need in the community. “Providing assistance at the greatest point of need, the Salvation Army of Texas County Service Unit offers lodging, transportation, clothing, furniture, groceries, healthcare, school supplies and other aid to residents of our community,” Cook said.
Statewide services include utility assistance, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, correctional services and homeless shelters.
