Dennis Eugene Hunter, 72, passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2014, at Willow Care Nursing Home.

He was born April 30, 1941, in Cabool, son of Aubrey and Ruth Evans Hunter.

He attended Cabool Schools and graduated in 1959. He lived his entire life in Cabool. He spent many years working with his dad in the Y Gas Station and Tire Store. He started hauling gas for Matherly Oil Company and eventually bought and renamed it Hunter Oil Company. As time passed, he owned the El Rancho Truck Stop, Will-Co Disposal and Hunter Enterprises.

He was awarded the Cabool Chamber of Commerce “Man of the Year.” He had a strong civic mind and was dedicated to his community’s success.

He spent many happy hours on the lake with friends and family. He loved boating with the grandchildren and pulling them on the tube.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Medora of the home; his son, Dustin Hunter of Cabool; a daughter, Lisa Windsor of Cabool; a sister, Helen Peabody of Cabool; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several other family members and friends.

Memorial services were Friday, April 11, at Cabool Second Baptist Church with Dr. Michael Lawton officiating. Services were under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool, MO.
