Thayer scored with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday to edge Houston 9-8.
It was the second consecutive one-run loss to a state-ranked opponent for the Tigers, who were defeated 6-5 in nine innings last week at Mountain Grove.Â
Tanner Cantrell was 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Aaron Cantrell and Trevor Merckling had two hits apiece.
Stetson Welch gave up five hits and two earned runs in 2 2/3 innings in the loss. Starter Devin Couler surrendered five hits and seven runs – three earned – in four innings. He struck out five and walked five.
