Tigers’ losing skid is long gone

Houston’s losing skid ended with a historic display of power.

Four different players hit home runs Monday as the Tigers overpowered Seymour 21-9 in five innings.

HHS (2-2) hit for the home run cycle to snap a two-game losing streak. Aaron Cantrell ripped a three-run home run in the first, Stetson Welch hit a solo homer and Tanner Cantrell drilled a two-run blast in the third, and Devin Coulter delivered a grand slam in the fifth.

The four homers were the most in a single game in the 16-year tenure of HHS coach Brent Hall. He said the 2001 Tigers hit four over the fence at Mountain View-Liberty, but only three counted because one batter failed to touch home plate during a celebration.

Coulter and Tanner Cantrell were both 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Coulter had six RBIs and Tanner Cantrell knocked home five runs. Aaron Cantrell had a pair of hits and four RBIs.

Houston has scored 37 runs in its two victories this season and just six times in two losses. The team had four home runs all of last season.

The Tigers jumped ahead 8-0 after two innings and led 12-3 after Stetson Welch and Tanner Cantrell both went deep in the third. The advantage stretched to 16-3 on Tanner Cantrell’s two-run double in the fourth.

The was plenty of support for senior Quinton Alston, who gave up six hits and nine runs –– five earned –– for his first victory of the season. He walked four and struck out three.
