Sherry Lynn (Brinkley) Hendricks, 56, daughter of Elvis Brinkley Jr. and Ruby (Hunter) Brinkley, was born April 4, 1958, in Cabool, Mo. She passed away May 8, 2014, at her home in Cabool, surrounded by family.
Sherry was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Enoch Hendricks; and one niece, Jeanie Ice.
Sherry is survived by her husband, Randy Hendricks; daughter, April Steele and fiancé, Lucas Clem; five sons, Ace and wife Reagan, Paden and wife Sarah, Jedidiah, Caleb and Samuel; two grandchildren, Audrey Steele and Zachary Hendricks; one step-grandson, Gabriel Clem; and two sisters, Kitty McKnight of Fordland, Mo., and Betty Ice of Tyrone, Mo.
Sherry grew up in Cabool but moved to Springfield, Colo., where she graduated from high school in 1976. There she met the love of her life, whom she married and remained married to for 38 years.
Sherry enjoyed music and inspirational hymns. Always passionate about her Savior and the truth of the Word, she was a devoted Christian who shared her faith with everyone she came in contact with. Well versed in scripture, Sherry devoted her life to teaching those around her. Alongside Randy, she attended the Sunset School of Preaching and also facilitated Family Dynamics Marriage classes to enrich marriages.
Sherry always had a thirst for knowledge, which made her a great teacher. She spent many years studying and training women in natural childbirth. She was passionate about health, exercise, and nutrition. She homeschooled all six of her children and encouraged other homeschool moms. In the past few years, she enjoyed ballroom dancing with Randy; they were members of the Starlight Debonairs in Springfield, Mo.
Sherry loved family. The highlight of her day was often spent with grandchildren and a house full of people (usually gathered around the kitchen waiting for her next culinary treat). She had many fantastic recipes that were, unfortunately, never written down (and were never quite the same as before). She welcomed everyone into her home and treated them like family; no one left a stranger. Holiday celebrations were Sherry’s favorite and were well attended by many in the community.
Sherry (Granny) had a special love for her grandchildren. She was a second mom to them and spent many days teaching them as she did her own children. Many times you would find Granny in the kitchen dancing with Audrey, Gabe and Zach.
Sherry was a remarkable wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. All those who came in contact with her were touched in one way or another. She loved life and dreamed of travel, even up to the day of her greatest adventure where she awaits her loved ones. She will be missed, but we know she smiles down on us now in the presence of the One she served all her life.
The family is hosting a Celebration of Life at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at the Cabool Christian Church. Cremation was under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
