Johnnie Ross Douglas, 83, son of Harry and Lulu (Christmas) Douglas, was born Nov. 6, 1930, in the White Rock Community. He passed away Aug. 24, 2014, in Houston, Mo.
Johnnie was a lifelong Texas County resident. He attended school in the area and graduated from Houston High School in 1949.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gene Dale Douglas; a sister, Syble Gobble; and a brother, Don Douglas.
He is survived by his sons, David Douglas and wife, Janet, of Springfield, Rodney Douglas and wife, Stephanie, of Houston, Mo., Greg Douglas and wife, Virginia, of Ozark, Mo., and Eric Douglas and wife, Anita, of Ozark, Mo.; four grandchildren, Sean, Jared, Jason and Solomon; great-granddaughter, Christa; two step-great grandchildren, Cameron and Cassie; and two sisters, Lulabelle Morton of Houston, Mo., and Nina Jeffress of Manitou Springs, Colo.
Johnnie was a man of many talents. He worked for Brown Shoe Co. and farmed for several years, but he considered himself a plumber by trade. He was a conscientious worker, working long hours and sometimes was compensated with produce, pies, cakes or other goods from those less fortunate. This action was a result of his kind generous spirit.
He loved his garden and was an avid fisherman, often sharing the results of his labors.
He accepted Christ as his Savior at a young age and had been attending the Cabool Christian Church for several years until his health prevented it and he moved back to the Houston area.
Johnnie was a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He loved his family and was proud of each one of them and their accomplishments. He was also proud of the Douglas name believing that āA good name is rather to be chosen than great richesā¦ā (Proverbs 22:1) And it is true that he will be remembered with love by his family and the friends made throughout the years.
