Alva M. Trowbridge, 87, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014, at at the Beautiful Savior Nursing Home in Belton.

He was born June 27, 1927, in Kansas City, son of Floyd and Oville Smith Trowbridge. He and Inez Marie Pruitt were married May 28, 1946.

He was a member of the American Legion He was a First Church of God pastor and pastored churches in Pawhuska, Okla., Flat, Summersville; Von, La., Craig, Mountain View, Chanute, Kan., and Hartville. He retired in Summersville after preaching at the Church of God for approximately 12 years.

He served in the Marine Core-First Air Wing during the Korean War, then served in the Army reserves. He attended college at Gulf Coast Bible College in Houston, Texas.

Before he became a minister, he was a farmer and worked at Russell Stover Candy in Kansas City.

He loved to bowl and was on several teams. He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, playing his juice harp, singing and going to basketball games. He found pleasure in visiting with his church family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; a sister, Emma Mills; and an infant grandson.

Survivors include his wife, Inez Trowbridge; a daughter, Tammy Webster of Kansas City; a brother, Clarence Trowbridge of El Dorado Springs; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services were Saturday, Sept. 6, at Bradford Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy Brooks officiating Burial with military honors was in Mount Olive Cemetery near Mountain View.
