AFH

Armed Force Hunters (AFH), a Summersville-based organization designed to help disabled military veterans get out and hunt, has recently received non-profit status, according to its leader.

Summersville resident Autm Sargisian, who founded AFH last December, reports that 501[c]3 status was granted by the U.S. Department of Treasury on Aug. 29. Sargisian said he and the organization’s vice president, Yukon resident and state Rep. Robert Ross, had earlier contacted Congressman Jason Smith’s office in Rolla for assistance in the application process, and a letter of congratulations personally written by Smith was received on Sept. 3.

“I would like a to offer a special thanks to Congressman Smith and his staff for helping make this happen for our organization,” Sargisian said. “I’d also like to thank Robert Ross for keeping in touch with Congressman Smith’s office.”

Anyone interested in joining AFH and helping assist in future fundraisers, community gatherings and hunting adventures is encouraged to send an email to disabledveteranhunters@gmail.com and indicate what you would like to do for the organization. Sargisian said a meeting will soon be announced for organizing 2015 hunting adventures and group gatherings.

“I’ve had friends come out (of the military) disabled and I’m a veteran myself, and my heart goes out to the ones who used to hunt and can’t anymore,” Sargisian said. “My dream is to make that possible again.”
