Jennett Virginia Barnes Haneline, 96, passed away Friday, Sept. 12, 2014.
She was born July 14, 1918, near Licking, daughter of Edward and Minnie Barnes.
After finishing high school, she went to the St. Louis area to find work. She found Al Haneline, who became her husband. They were on their way home from signing the papers on their first home in Rock Hill when they heard on the radio that Pearl Harbor had been bombed. The events that followed found Al on the beaches of Normandy.
She lived in the home in the St. Louis area with her sisters, Geneva and Anna Mae, and their first-born daughter, Sandy, until the war was over. They then moved to a farm 11 miles outside of Licking.
She was a devoted Christian and followed the teachings of Jesus. She studied the Bible and taught Sunday school at First Baptist Church in Licking as long as her health allowed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Al; two sisters, Geneva and Anna Mae; and a brother, Loren.
Survivors include four children, Sandy and John of St. Louis, Donna of Branson and Alan of the Licking area; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.
Services were Monday, Sept. 15, at Fox Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Robert Gifford officiating. Burial was in Ray Cemetery.
