One person was killed early Saturday in a crash that left a vehicle overturned in a creek near Emmett Kelly Park, authorities said.
The Houston Police Department said a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Charles Rhoades, 52, of Licking, was eastbound on Highway F at about 1:50 a.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve, hit some signs and landed in Brushy Creek.
The Houston Rural Fire Department Rescue Squad was called to the scene to extricate the driver, who was not wearing a seat belt. Mr. Rhoades was revived at the scene, taken to Texas County Memorial Hospital, where a medical helicopter was called. The patient boarded the chopper for Mercy Hospital in Springfield and later went into cardiac arrest. The helicopter returned to TCMH and Rhoades was declared dead.
The Houston Police Department — with assistance from the Missouri State Highway Patrol — investigated.
