Several shows are planned Saturday as part of the Miss Texas County Scholarship Pageant. About 30 girls are expected to compete.

Final preparations are underway for the Miss Texas County Scholarship Pageant. About 30 girls from Houston, Licking, Summersville, Raymondville, Cabool and Mountain Grove are expected to compete Saturday at the community building at the fairgrounds on North U.S. 63 in Houston.

The afternoon show begins at 1 p.m. with the Tiny, Little, Petite and Pre-Teen girls competing in four phases of competition: Private interview, talent, party dress and “Show Us Your American” spirit modeling.

The winners in the afternoon show will receive cash awards. All of the contestants will go home with a tiara, trophy and T-shirts. Organizers said there is a great group of contestants with talents ranging from sign language to songs, tap dance, ballet, singing, piano and much more. The evening show begins at 6 p.m. with the Miss and Outstanding Teen contestants competing in private interview, on-stage question, evening wear, talent and lifestyle/physical fitness. Talents include a violinist, baton twirlers, dance, color guard, ballet, flute player and vocalist during the evening competition.

The Miss Texas County pageant scholarships are provided by The Bank of Houston, Progressive Ozark Bank, Community Bank N.A., Landmark Bank, VIP Properties, Farmers Insurance Group, Willow Springs, Cynthia Jones-Ramsey Agent; Southern Missouri Investments – Jim Bukowsky and Delbert and Elaine Campbell.

The Miss Texas County pageant is a preliminary to the Miss Missouri/Miss America pageant. The new Miss Texas County and Miss Texas County Outstanding Teen will compete next June for the state titles in Mexico, Mo.
