LULA WALKER 

Lula Almeda Walker, daughter of Columbus and Mae (Carrell) McLaughlin, was born at Palace, Mo., on April 30, 1910. She was called Meda by everyone who knew her. She departed this life on Dec. 13, 2014, in Licking, Mo.

Meda attended grade school at Palace School and graduated from high school at Bloodland, Mo. She attended college at Springfield, Mo. She taught in public schools in Texas County for 20 years.

She was united in marriage to John (Jerry) Walker on April 24, 1934, at Houston, Mo. They had a good marriage for 49 years until he passed away on March 28, 1983.

Meda was converted in a revival meeting held at the Roby, Mo. School where she was a teacher. The Roby Baptist Church was organized from that revival and she and her husband, Jerry, were charter members for 22 years. They transferred their membership to the First Baptist Church in Licking when they moved to Licking.

Meda worked as secretary and bookkeeper for the Roby Furniture Factory for 13 years then worked at Fort Leonard Wood in the finance office until she retired in 1975. She became a member of the Eastern Star Chapter 240 at Plato in 1946. Later she transferred her membership to Licking Chapter 374 and was Worthy Matron and a 53-year member in OES.

Meda lived alone after her husband passed away enjoying her flowers, friends and church as long as she was able. She moved in 2004 to Licking Park Manor nursing home, where the staff was very good to her.

Those who preceded her in death are her husband; mother and father; two sisters, Altha Walker and Alta White; two brothers, Lawrence McLaughlin and Warren McLaughlin; and three brothers-in-law, Glen White, Joe Walker and Cray Wade.

She leaves to mourn her passing two sisters, Hazel Gomes and husband, Joaquin, and family of Denair, Calif., and Shirley Parker and husband, Louis, of Licking, Mo.; and one niece Linda Garich and family of Lake Villa, IL.

Visitation is 10-11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 22, at Evans Funeral Home. Services begin at 11 a.m. in the chapel with Billy Walker officiating. Burial will be in Palace Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
