Authorities said a Raymondville man apparently caused serious injury to his own body following a traffic stop Tuesday night near Licking.
Chief Scott Lindsey of the Licking Police Department said an officer initiated a stop at 8:45 p.m. for a traffic violation on a Dodge truck traveling south on Highway 137. Lindsey said the truck stopped in a driveway just south of Licking and the officer contacted the man behind the wheel to obtain identification for a routine records check.
When the officer returned to the truck to re-contact the 25-year-old driver, he observed that the man had cut himself with a knife on the arm and neck. Lindsey said the officer rendered assistance and contacted emergency medical services.
The driver was transported by ground ambulance to a landing zone in Licking and then taken away by helicopter to a Springfield hospital. Lindsey said the traffic violation and any further charges are under investigation.
