Houston High School expects to hire its next football coach as soon as the February school board meeting, according to Superintendent Scott Dill.
Dill said he anticipates the interview process will begin shortly to fill the vacant position. The successor to former coach Billy O’Neil, whose contract wasn’t renewed in December, could be decided on Feb. 10.
“We’re looking for that person that will take us to the next level,” Dill said.
HHS principal Charlie Malam and athletic director Brent Kell are handling the interviews. Dill was unsure of how many applications the district has received, but he did say was pleased with the quality of some of the candidates.
The next coach will inherit a program hasn’t had a winning season since Houston went 6-5 in 2008. The Tigers are a combined 5-55 the past six seasons, including a 0-10 record in 2014.
