Charles William Stern, 66, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2015.
He was born Oct. 16, 1948, in Granite City, Ill., son of Charles W. Sr. and Alice Lewis Stern.
He served in the Air Force from 1965-’69. He helped build and service airplanes in Bien Hoa Vietnam as a member of the 90th Fighter Squadron.
Upon discharge, he returned to Granite City, Ill., and worked in a steel mill. He was also a stockbroker, insurance agent, teacher and before going into aircraft maintenance. After losing his job in 1994, he became a cost analyst with Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in St. Louis, MO. He retired in November 2000.
In 2001, he and a friend, Nancy, bought property near Montauk. He lived there until his passing.
He enjoyed many fishing, camping and float trips with his family and friends. He especially loved coming to the Montauk area for trout fishing and floating the Current and Jacks Fork rivers.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Joseph Stern.
Survivors include two sons, Eric and Jason Stern of St. Louis; a special friend, Nancy Riechman of St. Louis; two sisters, Kathy King of Phoenix, Ariz., and Charlotte Williams of Granite City, Ill.; and many other family members.
Memorial services were Friday, March 13, at Fox Funeral Home with Pastor Wayne Werline officiating.
