The Houston R-1 School District, which has missed 14 sessions due to inclement weather, announced its makeup days Monday for the remainder of the year.
Superintendent Scott Dill said school will now be in session March 13 and 16 as well as April 6 and 20.
Dill said the district, which is using an hours-based calendar this year, is not required by the state to make up the missed days. But he said he believes he has a moral obligation to be open as often as possible.
“We don’t have to legally add these days back. But it’s the right thing to do by kids,” he said. “We owe it to these kids to be in session as much as possible.”
Classes have been dismissed 13 times in the third quarter alone. Dill said the quarter, which was scheduled to conclude Tuesday, will likely be extended.
Dill said the May 9 graduation date and May 15 final day of school will remain unchanged.
