Sales tax revenue in Houston and Texas County jumped upward during the latest distribution.

Two entities showed strong sales tax revenue growth in the latest report from the Missouri Department of Revenue.

Houston’s one-cent sales tax jumped $11,631 from the same period a year ago — an increase of 22 percent from the same monthly period in 2013. For the first two months of the year, the total for the tax is $121,986, which is up $9,108 from a year ago.

Houston merchants also collect two, quarter-cent sales taxes for sidewalks, streets and utility work. Each contributed $15,551, which was up about $3,017 each from the same period a year ago. For the year, the total on each is $28,864, which is up $2,604 on each.

Revenue from an eighth-cent sales tax for debt repayment on a fire truck totaled $7,775.

The monthly tally in Texas County grew about 18 percent from the same period a year ago. Each half-cent sales tax totaled about $101,455 — an increase of 18.4 percent from a year ago. In the first two months of the year, revenue is up about 14 percent. Each has generated about $174,140.
