What's left of a house destroyed by fire burns Wednesday afternoon on Northview Lane in Houston.

Personnel from the Houston Rural Fire Department responded twice Wednesday to a house that was ultimately destroyed by fire on Northview Lane in Houston.

Three Houston Rural trucks and seven firefighters responded to the scene at about 10 a.m. and encountered a home already being consumed by the blaze and huge clouds of smoke billowing and hovering in the surrounding area.

After about a half hour of work, responders appeared to have doused the fire. Most of the house was still standing, but it had sustained severe damage to its entire interior and many outside walls bore melted siding.

Two trucks from the Licking Fire Department arrived as the blaze was mostly contained.

Houston Rural assistant fire chief Richard Wood was at the scene and said the fire appeared to have started near the center of the structure and spread out from there.

“The guys did a really good job on this,” Wood said.

Just after 3 p.m., three Houston Rural trucks and six firefighters went back to the scene, only to find the house already fully engaged and almost totally leveled. This time, Chief Don Gaston was among the responders.

“By the time we got here, it was pretty much gone,” Gaston said.

The home was owned by John Sudheimer.
