James David “Dave” Miller, 69, was born July 13, 1945 in Marshalltown, Iowa, the youngest son of Paul A. and Mamie (Cole) Miller. He passed away June 21, 2015, at Webco Manor, Marshfield, Mo., where he had made his home for the last few years.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents; older brother, Dean; and infant son, Jeffery Dewaine Miller.
He is survived by his sister, Diane Davenport and husband, Gary, of Marshfield, Mo.; brother, Don Miller of Cabool, Mo.; his children, Dana Harshman and husband, Jeremy, of Bethany, Ill., Jennifer Jordan and husband, Brian, of Houston, Mo., Gregory Miller of Bremerton, Wash., and Tammy Stadler of Thornton, Colo.; his grandchildren, Kayla Wright and husband, Shane, Austin Harshman and Mallori Harshman, John and Jenna Jordan, Ethan and Bradley Stadler and Lowell Miller; great-granddaughter, Lily Wright and another one due in early September; the children’s mothers, Sheila Miller and Marilyn Brooks-Nelson; and nieces and nephews.
When Dave was a young boy, the family moved from Iowa back to Missouri and settled on a farm in Clara, Mo. He attended grade school at Union, a little one-room school, and graduated from Houston High School with the class of 1963. He served three years in the U.S. Army as an engineer equipment repairman during the Vietnam War, spending one year stationed in Thailand.
Dave spent several years working as a telephone lineman, which took him out of state and to several different towns. Later, he did construction work, helping build several senior citizen housing units in the local and surrounding areas.
As a young boy, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed the outdoors and sport of hunting deer, squirrel and turkey, until his health no longer allowed him to participate. He enjoyed watching football and baseball on TV. He was a big fan of the Oakland Raiders and St. Louis Cardinals.
Visitation was 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at Evans Funeral Home with services beginning at 11 a.m. in the chapel with Gary Davenport officiating. Pallbearers are Brian Jordan, Keith Miller, Shane Wright, Heath Davenport, Gregory Miller and Jeremy Harshman. Honorary pallbearers are Austin Harshman, John Jordan, Ethan Stadler and Bradley Stadler. Burial with full military honors was in Oakhill Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
