Revenue from a one-cent sales tax collected by merchants in Houston took a big jump when the latest monthly check arrived at city hall.
The tally was $69,051, a jump of $12,498 from the same period a year ago. For the year, $295,325 has been collected. That’s up $16,201 in the first five months of the year — compared to the same period a year ago.
Merchants also collect two eighth-cent sales taxes for streets, sidewalks and utility work. Both contributed $16,768, which is up $3,374 from the same period a year ago. For the year, each has generated $70,326.
An eighth-cent sales tax for debt repayment on a fire truck totaled $8,384, a jump of $1,687 from the same period a year ago.
