The Houston City Council approved a plan Monday to contract with Texas County for collection of its taxes this fall.
Under the agreement, which requires final approval from the county, Texas County Collector Tammy Cantrell would collect real estate and personal property taxes. The city’s taxes would be included on the county tax bill arriving in the fall.
The county will receive a 2.5 percent fee, and Cantrell’s office would net 2 percent. The county also would collect delinquent taxes for a 4 percent fee. Currently, the city collects the taxes at city hall. Collector Diana Hill is leaving the city’s employment this fall.
In other matters, members:
—Held the second reading of an ordinance that would allow UTVs and golf carts on city streets. A third reading is Aug. 3.
—Approved a conflict of interest ordinance mandated by state law. It is required every two years.
—Discussed proposals to allow credit card processing for payments to the city.
—Held a closed session to discuss personnel. No vote was taken.
