The Big Piney River roars out of control at about 7 a.m. Friday, July 10.

Heavy rainfall early Friday brought streams out of their banks, closing bridges and roads, and resulted in a water rescue early in the day in Texas County.

The precipitation came after a week of rain that already had streams running high.

At about 5:30 a.m. Summersville firefighters were called to a water rescue on Bethel Road. Water from a creek was reported up to the vehicle’s headlights and later came into the automobile. The response was successful, authorities said.

At just before noon Friday, the river was near the top of the bluff at Baptist Camp Access at Highway RA. The bridge was under water. In northern Texas County, the river access at Boiling Springs was closed and water surrounded houses.

Intercounty Electric Cooperative reported a power outage in the Licking area, and service was later restored to the area.

Damage is reported to many township roads and bridges. Bennie Cook, emergency management director for the county, said an assessment for a potential disaster declaration is underway. Results will be sent to the State Emergency Management Agency.

Residents should report damage to roads and bridges to their township board.
