After a rainy start to the Texas County Fair, the weather cooperated for the second night of activities.

Thursday featured a color run/walk that began in downtown Houston and concluded at the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce Fairgrounds. There were also family games. Both were hosted by Health Schools, Healthy Communities of Houston and Cabool.

Oldest settler

Houston resident Helen Laffoon sits in a rocking chair she received as the “oldest settler” at this year’s 105th Old Settlers Reunion in Texas County. Lafoon will turn 98 on July 31. The chair was donated by Storm’s Country Store and Antiques in Licking.

The weather was much different than Wednesday’s opening night as thunderstorms cut short motorcycle jumps by Riders On A Mission and moved a concert with “One” indoors. 

On Friday, World League Wrestling begins at 7 p.m. with a guest appearance by Harley Race. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 5-12.

The carnival with Lowery Amusements continues with several big rides. Tickets are $1 apiece and wristbands for unlimited riding are $20.

On Saturday, it’s ‘Dyno all day’ in the Infinite Entertainment parking lot. A draggin’ wagon truck pull begins at 7 p.m. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 5-12.

The Junior Livestock program continues through Saturday with various shows and judging. The annual Junior Livestock Sale begins at 2 p.m. Saturday.

The fair and its sister attraction, the 105th running of the Old Settlers Reunion, is organized by the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce. Livestock shows are spearheaded by the Texas County Fair Board.
