The Licking Police Department's dog worked a drug investigation that led to two arrests.

Two persons were implicated in a drug investigation conducted by the Licking Police Department, officers said.

On Aug. 26,  a Licking police officer initiated a traffic stop on a red Jeep Cherokee on Old Ridge Street after the operator failed to use a turn signal.  After speaking with the driver and passenger, the officer obtained consent to search the vehicle.  The Licking police narcotic detecting K-9 “Sara” was deployed and indicated the positive alert for drugs in the vehicle.

A search led to the discovery of several items of drug paraphernalia including multiple syringes and a glass smoking device.  Controlled substances were also found, officers said.  During a search of the driver’s person he was discovered to be in possession of “brass knuckles.”  The driver – Jeffery A. Brooks, 31, of Houston – was arrested for possession of controlled substance – methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine related drug paraphernalia, driving while revoked, failure to register motor vehicle, failure to use turn signal and possession of a prohibited weapon.

The passenger, Jeanne M. Bourbon, 32, of Licking, was arrested for possession of controlled substance – methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine drug paraphernalia. Upon arrival at the Texas County Jail, additional plastic bags containing a substance believed to be methamphetamine were found concealed on Bourbon’s person, officers said.

A probable cause statement was submitted to the Texas County prosecuting attorney seeking formal charges on the suspects.
