Texas County deputies recently handled several investigations. 

The following are excerpts of reports generated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department:

•At about 3:15 p.m. Nov. 14, a deputy on responded to a report of someone starting fires along Cartwright Road at Mountain Grove.

Upon arrival, the officer observed a location where a fire was burning and a brush truck crew from the Cabool Fire Department had sprayed hot spots. Two more fires were soon located on Pleasant Hill Road, one on each side of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Two other fires were also found in the area (one on Cartwright Road and another on White Creek Road).

The investigating officer reported that while he was on Pleasant Hill Road, a man suspiciously pulled up in a Toyota pickup and stated he had gotten turned around and was lost. An off-duty officer who also responded found a lighter at the scene of one of the blazes, and it was tagged as evidence.

Investigation of the case continues.

•A 61-year-old Summersville man reported a burglary at his Highway 17 residence on Nov. 18.

The man told an investigating officer that several chainsaws and other machines and tools had been stolen, with a total value of $1,000. There are no suspects.

•A deputy was dispatched at about 5:25 p.m. Nov. 17 regarding a report of a 41-year-old man whose left leg was stuck in a drainage pipe due to rushing water at a Highway Y property at Elk Creek.

Upon arrival, the officer observed that the man had been freed from the pipe and was in his home on the couch. The man was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Mountain View for treatment of injuries to his leg.

•A Licking woman called at about 5:45 p.m. Nov. 17 to report that her grandfather had not returned to his Kitchem Drive residence after leaving work. An investigating officer located the man at a friend’s house and determined he was waiting for floodwaters to recede.

•A woman called at about 4 p.m. Nov. 16 to report a foul smell at her property at U.S. 63 and Highway Z.

The woman told an investigating officer the smell was worse than that of a dead animal. The officer was unable to locate the foul smell or anything suspicious.

•A deputy responded at about 5 p.m. Nov. 17 to a request to check the well-being of a woman at a Solo Road residence. Upon arrival, the officer made contact with the woman, and she said she was fine.

•A deputy responded at about 10:45 p.m. Nov. 17 to a request to check the well-being of a man at a Burton Road residence at Bucyrus. Upon arrival, the officer found nobody home.
