A Houston retail store called “Consider the Lilies Vintage Floral Co.” now has new ownership.
Located in the McCloud Center on U.S. 63 South, the store has since May 1 been run by Joy Hinkle and her husband, Roger, who purchased it from relatives.
Joy said customers can still expect to find specialty silk and fresh floral arrangements “of all kinds for all occasions,” along with repurposed and “redefined” furnishings and other items (such as clothing and household goods). There are also gifts for babies, Joy’s unique “junk jewelry,” and an array of “industrial lighting” made by Roger out of all manner of metal (from bicycle wheels to chicken feeders).

Several of the items for sale inside “Consider the Lilies” on U.S. 63 south of Houston. The lace in the clothing is made from repurposed curtains and the light fixture is a repurposed bicycle wheel.
“He can turn almost anything into a light fixture,” Joy said.
One of the store’s primary focuses is repurposing. Customers can buy things already on display, or bring items in to get the treatment.
“That’s our emphasis,” Joy said. “We love to make something someone else threw away into something usable. We’re not about plastic or pressed wood, but as long as it’s old metal or real wood, we salvage what we can and redefine it.”
Joy said she likes seeing something that was once nice become nice again, in a different way.
“It’s all good stuff that we deal with,” she said. “The quality was good when it was made, and we just take that and put it back into use.”
The Hinkles have two children – Brad and T.J. – who live in the Houston area. Joy owned and operated “Savannah’s Tea House” in downtown Houston until about 11 years ago.
“I’ve done this kind of thing before,” she said. “I’ve repurposed and redone things for a long time. It’s just my niche.”
Consider the Lilies can also provide florals and décor for weddings. During the holiday season, the store will have a major “white winter Christmas” display, including a nativity scene out front. The scene will make its debut during a big holiday event this Saturday.
“I’m really excited about it,” Joy said.
