Military veteran

Curtis Mark Chambers, 61, passed away Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015, following a brief illness.

He was born Jan. 27, 1954, in St. Louis, son of Gerald “Jerry” 
 and Doris Hadley Chambers.

He grew up in Franklin County, where he attended Pacific schools. Following graduation, he joined the Army and served one tour in Vietnam as a radio operator.

After his return stateside, he attended East Central College and received an associates degree in applied sciences. He spent his working years as an auto mechanic and driving a tractor trailer both locally and over the road. He recently retired from his mechanics position at Fort Leonard Wood.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, tinkering gadgets, traveling and riding his Harley. He loved to sing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Karen; and one infant child.

Survivors include his fiance, Starla Garrett of Licking; six siblings Dennis Chambers and Kelley Lewis of Licking, Kent Chambers of Union, Brenda Buckner of Lenox, Lori Chambers of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Jill Stoner of Salem; four children, Melanie Elliott of Success, Curtis Vandegriff of Cattawissa, Jennifer Vandegriff of Pacific and Melissa Medley of Maryland Heights; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Cremation was under direction of Fox Funeral Home.
