Authorities say a gun was fired by a Rolla man who demanded money at a Licking residence.

A Rolla man faces numerous felony charges after an incident in which a gun was shot during an attempted Jan. 8 robbery at a residence on Reed road at Licking.

According to a probable cause statement submitted to the county prosecutor by an investigating deputy, the man allegedly entered the house at about 7:45 p.m. along with a man, a woman and their 1-year-old child. Already inside were a 23-year-old man who lives there, his 5-year-old son, and another man and woman.

The suspect reportedly then demanded all the residents’ money, fired a shot from a .22 caliber rifle into the floor, and then pointed the gun at the resident. After the confrontation went on for about 15 minutes, the man had not received any money, and he and the people he arrived with reportedly left.

The alleged gunman was taken into custody a short time later and admitted to demanding money and firing the rifle. Charges sought against the man include first-degree attempted robbery (with firearm), armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, three counts of second-degree assault and four counts of felonious restraint.

The arresting officer noted that the suspect has a record including multiple felony convictions, and was sentenced to five years in prison in February 2012.
