A Cabool man faces numerous felony charges and is held on $1 million bond in the Texas County Jail after allegedly firing a gun into a house occupied by several people on Monday.
According to a probable cause statement submitted to the county prosecutor by a Cabool Police Department officer, five Cabool policemen responded at about 5 p.m. to a report of shots fired at a home at 720 Second St. After an investigation, authorities determined that Christopher J. Casper, 44, of 999 Chestnut Ave. in Cabool, had fired a shot from a pistol through an open door at the residence.
Five people were reportedly inside at the time, and no one was injured. A woman in the house told authorities she heard a vehicle pull into the driveway and opened the door, and then saw Casper exit the vehicle, pull out the gun and fire.
The bullet traveled through a wall above a bedroom door and lodged in the ceiling.
Police arrested Casper at his residence. He reportedly at first denied he owned a firearm, but officers told him they had already been advised by other people that he did.
Casper then showed officers a drawer in the kitchen where they could find a Taurus .38 caliber revolver. Investigation revealed he is a convicted felon and prohibited from having a gun.
Casper is charged with first-degree assault, armed criminal action, first-degree burglary and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon (exhibiting and shooting).
