The Houston school board accepted multiple resignations and hired a new elementary teacher during the closed session of Tuesday’s monthly meeting.
Brent Kell and Jeri Welch announced their retirements at the end of the current school year and Amy Dill and Barry Wheeler are moving away from the district. Custodian Darrell Sillyman’s last day will be Jan. 19.
The board voted to employ Tina Sutton as an elementary teacher for the 2016-’17 school year. Two other moves –– Karen Parker as piano accompanist and Alyssa Wildhaber as paraprofessional –– are for the rest of the current year.
Kell is completing his 30th season as head coach of the high school girls’ basketball team. He also serves as athletic director, physical education instructor and golf coach.
Welch is a high school social studies teacher and middle school track coach.
Dill, the first-year director of the Exceptional Child Cooperative, is leaving the district with her husband, Superintendent Scott Dill, to move to Poplar Bluff. Her last day is June 30.
Wheeler, the high school volleyball team’s first-year coach and wellness coordinator, accepted a coaching position at Crowley’s Ridge College in Paragould, Ark.
Also during the closed session of the meeting, the board unanimously approved Parker and Barbara Thomas as substitute teachers for the remainder of the current school year.
