After losing three straight games, the Houston Tigers bounced back Monday with a convincing road victory.
Trevor Motzkus and Matt Knarr –– the Nos. 8 and 9 batters in the HHS lineup –– combined for five hits, four RBIs and four runs scored to lead the Tigers to a 12-1 six-inning win at Seymour.
Motzkus had three of Houston’s 11 hits. Knarr and Stetson Welch had two hits apiece.
Stetson Welch improved to 2-0 with the complete-game victory. He allowed one hit and one unearned run in six innings. He struck out six and waked two.
Motzkus had a RBI fielder’s choice in the second to make it 1-0 and gave HHS a 5-1 lead with a run-scoring single in the third.
Stetson Welch’s fourth-inning single made it 6-1 before the Tigers scored sixth times in the sixth. Knarr had a two-run single during the rally.
The victory put the Tigers (3-3) back on the winning track after losing their final three games last week of the Dooley’s Sports Grill Leadoff Classic.
Last Tuesday, Stetson Welch knocked in all five HHS runs in their 15-5 loss to Cuba.
Kyle Wilson and Stetson Welch had two hits apiece. Whitley Welch scored twice.
Ethan Kelley gave up 12 hits and eight earned runs in four innings in the loss.
Last Thursday, Tanner Carter knocked in a pair of runs as HHS was beaten 5-3 by Salem.
Motzkus gave up eight hits and five runs –– two earned –– in the complete-game loss. He struck out seven and walked five.
On Friday, the Tigers were shut out for the first time in a 12-0 loss to Mountain Grove.
Nathan Poynter gave up seven hits and four earned runs in the loss.
