A pair of local organizations have partnered to stage an event from 2-to-6 p.m., Saturday, April 23, at Emmett Kelly Park in Houston.

Hosted by the Houston Community Foundation and the Kindness Revolution Powered by Justin Shelby, the “Play for Paisley” fundraiser will benefit the family of 21-month-old Paisley Collins, who was diagnosed last Nov. 30 with mixed lineage leukemia, an aggressive form of cancer found in less than 5-percent of all leukemia cases.

The event will feature various activities and exhibits for people of all ages.

T-shirts bearing the phrase, “cancer picked the wrong princess,” are available for $20 in adult sizes or $15 in youth sizes, and can be obtained at the State Farm office on U.S. 63 south of Houston, or the Houston Herald office on Grand Avenue in downtown Houston. Area sponsors covered the cost of having the shirts printed, so all proceeds go to the Collins family.

Event organizers encourage other groups and organizations to get involved by setting up fundraising booths and displays at the event, with all proceeds going to the family. For information, call Viki Narancich at 417-967-0052 or Amanda Starr at 417-967-2000.

Paisley is the daughter of Tyson Collins and Sarah Fraser Collins, of Rogersville (who is a Houston native). She is receiving treatment at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis.
