Michael E. Roderick, 64, of Blue Springs, Mo., passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at the Kansas City Hospice House.
He was born Sept. 17, 1951, in Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., to Junior Leslie and Mildred P. (Pearcy) Roderick James. He graduated from Houston, Mo., High School and served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era.
Mike spent the majority of his working years in the construction equipment rental and sales business, most recently with United Rentals, as the Director of Operational Excellence. Mike was a trustee at Gateway Church in Blue Springs. He had a strong faith in his Lord Jesus Christ and lived his life for others. Mike enjoyed mentoring young people to better themselves and always strive for God’s purpose, either at church, work, or in the community. Mike was a very devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.
He married Margaret “Peggy” Fulks on Jan. 1, 1976, in Springfield, Mo. In addition to Peggy, survivors include their three children, Christopher L. Roderick (Gabriela) of San Francisco, Calif., Nicholas S. “Shawn” Roderick (Andrea) of Blue Springs, Mo., and William J. Roderick (Allison) of Blue Springs, Mo.; two brothers, Phillip Roderick (Amy) of Jefferson City, Mo., and Daniel Roderick of Pittsburgh, Pa.; a stepsister, Debbie Binkley of Seymour, Mo.; five grandchildren, Nazareth, Billy, Liam, Lilliana and Laine.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepfather, Gerald James; and a great-nephew, Will Pace.
A funeral service celebrating Mike’s life is 2 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2016, at the First Baptist Church, 4500 Little Blue Parkway, Independence Mo., with his pastor and good friend Scott Sterling from Gateway Church officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m., prior to the service. Burial with military honors will follow in Blue Springs Cemetery.
