Houston junior Trevor Motzkus struck out 14 batters to lead Houston past Summersville 13-3 in six innings last Wednesday.
Motzkus allowed just one hit and one earned run in the complete-game victory. He walked six.
The Tigers (10-12) took immediate control with 10 first-inning runs. Stetson Welch had a two-run double during the rally and Tanner Carter, Motzkus and Kyle Wilson all had run-scoring hits.
Whitley Welch and Motzkus had two hits apiece for HHS. Wilson, Carter, Stetson Welch and Gavin Alston all knocked in two runs.
Nathan Poynter had five of the team’s 11 stolen bases.
On Friday, the Tigers went toe-to-toe with the seventh-ranked team in Class 2 in a 2-1 defeat at Plato.
Stetson Welch struck out eight batters in the complete-game loss. He allowed six hits and one earned run.
Houston took a 1-0 lead in the second as Alston led off with a single and scored on Ross Wells’ groundout.
Plato answered with a run-scoring single in the third and scored the eventual game-winning run via an error.
