Donald “Don” Lee Mathis, 80, of Houston, passed away Sunday, June 20, 2016, at Houston House.

He was born Sept. 9, 1935, in Houston, son of John Edward and Lillian Evelyn Sillyman Mathis.

He graduated from Houston High School. He served in the Air Force from Nov. 4, 1954, through Feb. 1, 1963. He was honorably discharged as an A1C.

He worked for Boeing Aircraft as a security guard. He was a regional director for Parents magazine in Vancouver for many years, then owned and operated the South Central Shopper for several years.

He was an avid sports fan. His favorite team was the Green Bay Packers. He also loved watching the Kansas City Royals and St. Louis Cardinals.

He was baptized at the Assembly of God Church in Cabool in his later years. He also attended church in Mountain Grove while living there.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include a sister, , Rae Reed of Licking; a brother, Bill Binkley of Springfield; a stepdaughter, Debra Binkley of Seymour; two grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and two nephews.

A celebration o life is 11 a.m. Thursday, June 23, at Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Howell Burkhead officiating. Visitation is 10 a.m. until service time. Cremation was under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
