Military veteran

Glen Ira Shanks, 96, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2016.

He was born Jan. 2, 1918, in Licking, son of Ira and Martha Dixon Shanks.

He and his wife, Mabel, lived in the Sherrill community, where they owned and operated a service station for many years. He worked at Ft. Leonard Wood as a civil service carpenter until he retired. After his retirement, he worked at Ray Chevrolet and later as a school bus driver for the Licking School District.

Glen served in the Army during World War II. He was a Shriner and Mason.

He enjoyed watching St. Louis Cardinals Baseball and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife of 44 years, Mabel; his second wife of 26 years, Gertrude; and a sister, Georgia.

Survivors include three children, Bettye Behle, Glenda Shanks and John Shanks; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services were Friday, June 10, at Fox Funeral Home Chapel with Donny Stow officiating. Burial was in Licking Cemetery.
