The Lynch-Tweed Civil War Home Preservation Society met Thursday, June 16, at the Texas County Health Department. Eight members were present.
The main topic of discussion was the importance and urgency of roofing the home. Old tin was agreed upon as roofing material to keep the preservation within the time period. Members expressed appreciation for the generous assistance Hutsell Roofing has provided in hot, dirty and difficult circumstances. Enough tin was found with the help of Claudia Bernau and Chris Smith.
Roofing is to begin after the first of July. Volunteers are needed to help with debris removal to help with costs. Discussion emphasized the importance of communicating the significance of this historical treasure and increasing membership and resources.

Help is sought to rehabilitate the oldest structure in Houston, the Tweed House.
Some future possibilities included checking into the Henry Schoolcraft anniversary celebration taking place next year and holding an actual open hearth cooking demonstration in one of the three fireplaces the home contains. A bed of sand would provide heat barrier and illustration of pioneer Dutch oven cooking.
The next meeting is 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 21, at the Texas County Health Department. All interested persons are encouraged to attend.
