• Around the county, there was reports of storm damage from high winds that blew through southern Texas County last Wednesday morning. At Summersville, the roof blew off a automotive business on Highway 17 near the new Dollar General Store. Numerous trees were downed in that area of the county.

• Two local 6-year-olds will be honored Saturday as part of the annual “Walmart Heart” program. Houston store management said a convoy of 12 Walmart 18-wheelers will leave Licking at about 9 a.m. and shuttle Aiden and Myka King, of Raymondville, to the Houston store, where they will receive presents from the truck drivers and take part in a shopping spree. The trailer of one of the trucks will bear the images of many people recognized through the program this year.
Walmart Heart is an ongoing program in which truck drivers strive to “lift the spirits of children or adults with chronic medical conditions or special needs.”
• Around town: Houston’s Sonic has introduced a new element when ordering: A video display during its ordering experience.
The service is located in customers’ drive-in stalls and includes a digital drive-in menu board with a screen that plays dynamic content.
Work is underway on a 30,000 square foot expansion of the Durham Company’s south plant at the Houston Industrial Park. Nearby, work continues on a wellhouse and water tower.
Early this week, workers were assembling the tower south of Opportunities Sheltered Industries. The project is paid in part by Delta Regional Authority, a federal organization whose aim is to assist a multi-state region.
