Jaretta Randall was crowned Miss Cabool’s Dairy Queen at the annual event Thursday night. This qualifies Miss Randall to participate in the Miss Missouri contest in July. The award was worth $250 in cash and several merchandise prizes.

Most forms of river life were destroyed for about a mile along Piney River headwaters near Cabool. Actually all water wildlife was killed, according to Conservation agent Ron Roellig. Officials hurried to the scene and water samples and oxygen tests were taken. The analysis is expected to be completed within a few days.

James “Sam” Yarnall is the new assistant plant superintendent at the H.D. Lee factory. Yarnall is in charge of production on the factory’s twilight shift which employs about 110 persons. Yarnall has trained at Lee factories in Lebanon and Richland since joining the company a few weeks ago.

Alfred Smith is the new manager of the Chuck Wagon Cafe. He purchased the restaurant from his daughter, Irene Smith and Ed Douglas, manager of the Lazy L Cafe.

Rural 4-H club members left Missouri Friday for a citizenship short course in Washington, D.C. Attending are Mary Lantz, Janet Crowley, Ann Holt, David McCloud, Nancy Lantz, Dixie Hart, Rex Medlock and Mary Stottlemyre. Representatives from throughout the state made the trip.

Houstonians attending the all-star game in St. Louis were Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Romines, Bill Sponsler and Robert L. Davis.

The Roy McKinney’s vacationed last week at the Gulf of Mexico. The Eugene Floyd family moved last week into their new home near Indian Creek on South U.S. 63. Former Houstonian, W. J. McGee of Sherman, Texas, retired July 1 as general agent for the Franklin Life Insurance Co. after 50 years of service with the company. He was formerly associated with a Houston business. He was honored with a dinner in Sherman; the occasion also was his 84th birthday.
