The Houston Herald has launched some of its content on a new Facebook platform that quickly loads pages for readers on mobile devices.
Facebook launched Instant Articles in May with less than a dozen publishers with the promise that it would significantly speed up load times for mobile users. The program has since expanded to a few hundred publishers, including the Houston Herald.
People reading Herald content will notice it loads almost immediately on the screen of their device.
“Slow loading times on the mobile web created a problematic experience for people reading news on their phones. This is a problem that impacts publishers of all sizes, especially those with audiences where low connectivity is an issue,” Facebook said in a statement.
The Herald has an engaged readership on Facebook with about 6,000 registered likes. In the last week, statistics show nearly 40,000 were reached by posts.
