Local 4-H youth show their work at the fair

At last week’s 2016 Texas County Livestock Fair, numerous members of area 4-H chapters entered artwork and other projects in various competitive categories. Included were a Kinect roller coaster made by 12-year-old Jonathan Hagler, left, and a crayon cross, below left, produced by Adam Ha-gler, 8, both of Licking. Several 4-H members entered photos, with one by Licking resident Megan Loughridge, 12, receiving the top award. A notebook produced by 11-year-old Cassandra Hines, of Raymondville, also earned a top award.

University of Missouri Extension regional youth development specialist Janice Emery, who oversees the 4-H program in Texas County and two neighboring counties, said a lot of preparation went into the entries and the results showed it.

“I am so proud of all the kids who showed at the fair,” Emery said. “They worked hard all year and did fantastic! Getting to see the kids show off their hard work is one of the best parts of my job. We had a wonderful turn out and I appreciate their hard work and look forward to it again next year. Thanks to all the families who helped to make it possible and of course the Texas County Fair Board for another great year! If anyone is interested in joining 4-H or interested in being a 4-H volunteer, I would love the chance to talk to you more about it! You can get in touch with me at the Extension office in Houston or call 417-967-4545.”
