Jenny Grimm, Cindy Haley and Pat Lassiter of Houston enjoyed the murder mystery play, “The 39 Steps,” performed July 10 at the Ozark Actors Theatre in Rolla. The play, which was adapted from the novel written by John Buchan was also made into a movie by Alfred Hitchcock.
Alice and “Chalky” Wells of Houston visited with their son, Dylan, and his family Friday, July 15, at St. Louis. They attended a musical, “Young Frankenstein,” at the Muny Opera in Forest Park, which is based on the Mel Brooks 1974 movie comedy classic. They also visited the boat lagoon. The Muny Opera has been a summer St. Louis tradition since its construction in 1917 as the area’s only outdoor live theater, which was originally called the “Municipal Theatre.”
JOKE OF THE WEEK
A husband and wife were driving down a country lane on their way to visit some friends. They came to a muddy patch in the road and the car became bogged. After a few minutes of trying to get the car out by themselves, they saw a young farmer coming down the lane, on his tractor.
The farmer stopped when he saw the couple in trouble and offered to pull the car out of the mud for $50. The husband accepted and minutes later the car was free. The farmer turned to the husband and said, “You know, you’re the 10th car I’ve helped out of the mud today.”
The husband looks around at the fields incredulously and asks the farmer, “When do you have time to plow your land? At night?”
“No,” the young farmer replied seriously, “Night is when I put the water in the hole.”
