Missouri State University will host a home wine making workshop for both beginning and experienced wine-makers from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday (July 26) at the Missouri State Fruit Experiment Station in Mountain Grove.
Dr. Karl Wilker, Professor of Enology and the Missouri State University Winery and Distillery Manager, Todd Frye, owner and operator of The Home Brewery in Ozark, and C. J. Odneal, Missouri State Cellar Technician, will present information in an informal setting where participants are invited to ask questions as well as share their winemaking experience.
Wine making is a fun and rewarding hobby The Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) is the government agency that regulates the production of wine for home use (not for sale). According to regulation, one adult head of the household can produce, without the payment of tax, 100 gallons of wine per calendar year per household. If there are two adults residing in the same household, then it is legal to produce up to 200 gallons of wine per year for home use. The TTB regulations are available on the web.
All people 21 years old or older are invited to attend. Pre-registration is required. The workshop will be limited to 25 participants. The registration fee is $40 and includes a wine kit and lunch.
