The search is on for the state’s best grandmas.
The second annual contest — Missouri’s 10 Best Grandmothers — has been announced by the Magic of Marceline Development Company. The contest honors grandmas who have positively influenced their grandchildren and who embody the common sense, family values that gave Missouri its reputation as the Show Me state.
Each winning grandmother will receive $500 in cash, plus a $250 donation to the charity of her choice. Winners are based on a one page written essay. Entry deadline is Aug. 1. Winners will be announced Aug. 12 and prizes will be awarded at a gala celebration in Marceline on Saturday, Sept. 10.
The celebration is in Walt Disney’s boyhood hometown as a tribute to the values he learned there. The Disney brand is recognized globally for its strong family values, and Walt Disney credited both his family and Marceline as the source of those values.
The 2015 contest was very successful with hundreds of entries submitted statewide. Martha Shriver of Texas County was among the 10 winners.
