Thela Margaree Brawley Greear, daughter of Neil T. and Ida Elizabeth Birge Brawley, was born Jan. 1, 1928, in Shannon County and passed away at her home on Friday, July 8, 2016. She was 88.
She received an eighth grade education at Wildwood School and with the exception of a few years her entire life was spent in Shannon County. She was united in marriage to Edwin Robert Greear on Nov. 8, 1947, in Eminence, making their union together 60 years before Edwin passed away on Jan. 13, 2008.
To this union seven children were born, Susan, Marjorie, Larry, Loeta, Cathy, David and Sharlene.
She was a stay-at-home mom who always raised a huge garden every year to feed her family. No one ever was hungry at her house. In later years, she enjoyed romance novels and crossword and word search puzzles. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Edwin, a granddaughter, Rebecca Smith; sisters and brothers, Alta Clouse, Nellie Bay, Dallas Brawley, Ruth Ross, Vida Greear, Alton and Glendon Brawley; five infant brothers and sisters.
Surviving are her children: Susan Womack, Houston; Marjorie Smith, Yukon; Larry Greear, Summersville; Loeta Killough, Plumersville, Ark.; Cathy Tuttle, Eminence; David Greear, Summersville; Sharlene Greear, Summersville.
Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and family friends.
Funeral services were 10 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2016, at Bradford Funeral Home with the Rev. Gordon Rhodes officiating. Burial was in Flat Rock Cemetery under the care of Bradford Funeral Home.
