The Houston High School volleyball team opened its season Tuesday night with a 25-11, 25-16 road loss at Licking.

“I could tell the girls were a little nervous for their first game,” first-year HHS coach Loran Richardson said. “We know what we need to improve on and will focus on those areas in practice.”

Emily Shea led the Lady Tigers (0-1) with three kills. Alexis Choate had a team-best five assists. Shea and Melody Buse had six digs apiece. Sevanna Rowland added five.

Houston travels to Cuba on Thursday and participates Saturday in the Branson Tournament. The team’s home opener is Tuesday against Cuba.
