Velma Lucille Boyd Bailey, 93, of Hartshorn, passed away Friday, Aug. 19, 2016, ar Mercy Hospital in Springfield.

She was born Oct. 15, 1922, daughter of Millard Filmore and Samanthy Boyd. She married Howard bailey.

She attended Pine Flat School. She was employed by Angelica Uniform Company for 21 years.

She was a mother who enjoyed flower gardening, sewing, canning, rock hunting, collecting and traveling with her children. She was a prolific quilter, having made many original and colorful quilts depicting subjects drawn from her own experience, surrounding and ideas. She also enjoyed collecting and listening to bluegrass music.

She was a member of the Summersville First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Harry Boyd, Wade Boyd, Joe Boyd, Ottis Boyd and Leyburn Boyd; her sisters, Vera Boyd Stark and Alida Boyd Holt; two sons, Elmer Bailey and Larry Bailey; and a daughter, Ruth Bailey Brown.

Survivors include a brother, Troy Boyd of Success; two sisters, Tressie Pursiful of Raymondville and Dovie Garrett of Success; a son, Denver Bailey of Springfield; five daughters, Lorene Vandivort of Houston, Arlene Su of Tipton, Jeanne Bailey of Nixa, Virginia Wilbanks of Summersville and Marlene Gray of Wellington, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Vivian Yandell of Hartshorn; and many other family members.

Services were Tuesday, Aug. 23, at Bradford Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Steelman officiating. Burial was in Union Chapel Cemetery.
