Fred Emmit Walker, 77, passed away at home on Aug. 31, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 3, 1939, to Mabel J. (Collins) and Rollie Emmit Walker in Houston, Mo.

He was married to Linda Ruth Vandivort. Fred accepted Christ in his younger years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Viola Shelton; two brothers-in-law, Lawrence Skaggs and Wade Shelton; two nephews, Greg and Jimmy Shelton; and one great-granddaughter, Faith.

Fred is survived by his wife of 60 years, Linda; two sons, Larry Walker and wife, Jenny, of Pea Ridge, Ark., and Randy Walker and wife, Kay, of Bucyrus, Mo.; one daughter, Susan Hohlt and husband, Doug, of Bucyrus, Mo.; eight grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; a sister, Berniece Skaggs of Houston, Mo.; and a brother, Don Walker of Chinle, Ariz.

He was employed by the City of Houston for 40 years. An avid coon hunter, he earned the nickname “Coon Walker” in high school. He made many friends and acquaintances throughout the country on hunts. The Houston High class of 57 was always very special. He enjoyed each of the luncheons and reunions very much.

One of his greatest loves was spent watching the grandchildren play ball. Many hours were spent playing catch. The grandchildren would often pile on Grandpa Fred’s lap to hear him read “Bert and Ernie” to them.

Although Fred will be greatly missed, he is no longer in pain and we can be assured we will see him again someday.

Services are 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016, at Evans Funeral Home with Norman Orr officiating. Pallbearers were Freddie Walker, Adam Walker, Willy Walker, Weston Walker, Kolby Walker and Joe Covert. Honorary pallbearers were Cody Martin and Karson Walker. Burial was in Pine Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.

In lieu of floral arrangements, the family respectfully suggests that donations be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Houston Relay for Life. Online condolences may be sent to www.evansfh.com.
