The Houston High School softball team will enter postseason play next week as the district’s top seed.
The Lady Tigers were awarded the No. 1 slot Wednesday in Class 2 District 1 and received a first-round bye. HHS will play for the first time in the Oct. 6 semifinals.
Ava, which will host the tournament, is the second seed and also received a first-round bye. Mansfield is the No. 3 seed and will play sixth-seeded Mansfield in one first-round matchp at 6 p.m. Oct. 5. The other pits No. 4 Hartville against No. 5 Gainesville to kick off districts at 4:30 p.m.
Houston (8-8) will face the Hartville-Gainesville winner at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 6. Ava hosts the other semifinal at 6 p.m.
The championship game is 4:30 p.m. Oct. 7.
Houston has won three consecutive games to reach the .500 mark following Tuesday’s 13-3 win against Gainesville. The Lady Tigers have three games remaining in the regular season: Wednesday at Newburg, Thursday at Willow Springs and Monday at home against Bakersfield.
